Do you remember the name, Charlo Greene? She’s the former television reporter who quit her job while she was on air as a crusade for the freedom to smoke weedWell, now she’s in the news again, but for less than stellar reasons this time around.

As it turns out, the pot proponent is one of the several weed retailers in Alaska that have been popped by the police for operating without a license to do so and is facing more than 50 years behind bars for her alleged crimes.

Alaska became the third state in the U.S. to legalize the consumption of recreational cannabis in 2015. However, the state has only issued 17 licenses to operate pot retail shops, none of which have opened their doors to customers as of yet.

In the meantime, law enforcement officials have been busy singling out those, like Charlo Greene, who owns and operates the Alaska Cannabis Club, that has decided to dodge state regulations that she claims are inconsistent with the state’s current legislation regarding cannabis.

Greene told The Guardian that the fact that she’s been charged with selling weed without a license is “almost dizzying when you try to make sense of it. It could literally cost me the rest of my adult life.”

The former TV reporter is facing 14 charges of “misconduct involving a controlled substance,” after police investigators staged a series of undercover buys from her pot store.

Legal experts say it’s questionable as to whether or not Greene will have the proverbial book thrown at her due to the fact that her charges will most likely be handled similarly to someone caught selling alcohol without a license as opposed to illegal drug trafficking.
